ADVANCED PLACEMENT TEST(AP)
Advanced Placement Test(AP) allows students to earn college credit while still attending
high school. AP courses are great for students that excell in their high-school studies and
seek greater challenges. To sign-up for AP courses, talk with your advisor or counselor;
let he/she guide you. Here are some facts about AP Courses:
- GENERAL AP - INFORMATION
- AP courses are classes taught in High-School, then you must take the AP Exam for college credit.
- AP courses are more demanding than high-school courses, thus college representatives weigh them differently.
- AP courses enable you to earn college credit.
- AP courses give you an idea of committment that college courses require.
- Although it is suggested that one take an AP course before taking the AP Examination, you can take the AP Exam without taking the class.
- You can register for an AP course by consulting your counselor or advisor.
- PREPARING FOR THE AP EXAM
- AP Exams are offered once a year in May
- The cost for each AP Exam is $72. Some states will pay the exam fee for you.
- If you cannot afford the test then, fee reductions are available to qualified students.
- AP guides are available to help you prepare for the AP subject tests.
- You can order AP publications by calling (609) 771-7243
- It generally takes three hours to complete an AP Exam.
- You will need several no. 2 pencils, a black pen, your high-school code number,a watch, & a calculator (for certain test)
- DURING & AFTER THE AP EXAM
- One fourth or one third of a point is subtracted for each wrong answer
- The AP coordinator will provide all necessary instructions.
- AP Grade Reports are sent to the schools you specify on the July after you take the test.
- A $10 fee is required to send additional copies to schools:AP Exams, P.O. Box 6671, Princeton, NJ 08541-6671.
- AP Scholar Awards are awarded to some students in the fall.
