SAT I - BACKGROUND
Administred by the College Board Organization the SAT I is the first part of the SAT.
The SAT I or Reasoning Test is a 3 hour test that measures your verbal and mathematical reasoning abilities as developed primarily within school.
The Reasoning Test is divided into two main sections, each addressing some aspect of your
ability.
The SAT I is made up of seven sections
Verbal Aptitude
Consisting of two 30-minute sections and one 15-minute section;
this section contains Analogy questions, Sentence-completion questions, and Reading-comprehension
questions . The reading passages are now long ranging from 400 - 850
words in length and include questins that require you to compare two different
passages.
Mathematics Aptitude
Consist of two 30-minute sections and one 15-minute section. This section
contains around 25 to 35 questions on mathematical reasoning;
measuring your ability to solve problems and to make quantitative comparisons. A new type of question called "Grid-ins,"
in which students supply their own answers by filling in a numerical
answer on the grid. Calculators are now allowed.
Mystery Section
Consisting of 1 30 minute section; this section is usually composed of either verbal or math questions.
SAT I Sections
Verbal Questions :
- Analyze and Understand Reading Material - (40 Questions)
Reading questions measure your ability to understand passages read.
- Analyze Sentence Composition for structure - (19 Questions)
Sentence composition questions measure your ability to understand how the different parts of a sentence fit
together.
- Vocabulary Meanings / Analogies - (19 Questions)
Analogy questions measure your knowledge of word meaings, relationships between pairs of words and the
ability to recognize similar relationships between words.
Mathematics Questions :
There are about 60 total questions. 35 - Multiple Choice, 15 - Quantitative Comparison, 10 - Other.
Math Concepts:
- Basic Arithmetic - Addition, Subtraction Division, Multiplication, Percents, Prime Numbers,Averaging Concepts.
- Algebra - Substitution, Simplifying Expressions, Factoring, Linear Equations, Exponents, Roots, Sequences.
- Geometry - Area, Circumferences, Volume, Pythagorean Theorem, Types of Triangles,Lines,etc.
