SAT II - SUBJECT TEST
Literature
The purpose of the literature subject test is to assess how well you read literature. It anticipates that
you have a high levels of verbal ability and reading comprehension, as well as knowledge of basic literary
terminology. The format consist of 60 questions based on selections from the REnaissance to the present. There
are about six reading selections, of which, half are poetry and half prose (complete short poems or excerpts from poems, stories, novels, nonfiction, and drama).
Writing
The purpose of the Writing subject test is to assess your ability to express your ideas from a writing perspective.
You will be required to recognize errors in writing composition. The format consist of a 20 minute essay on
an assigned topic. There will be 60 multiple choice questions dealing with various writing concepts.
American History
The purpose of the American History subject test is to assess your knowledge of American History as taught in a secondary
school. You will be expected to be familiar with history from pre-Columbian times to present, along with basic social
science concepts and methods. The subject test consist of 90-95 questions covering political, economic, social, intellectual
and foreign policy.This test like the others are scored on a range from 200-800.
World History
The purpose of the World History subject test is to assess your understand of the major cultures of the world
and the use of historical techniques. You are expected to be familiar with historical terminology, geography along
with the ability to use knowledge in intrepreting data.The format of this test consist of 95 multiple-choice questions
covering all historical fields.
Math Level I - No Calculator
The purpose of the Math Level I subject test is to assess your understanding of mathematics areas such as: algebra,
geometry, basic trigonometry, data interpretation, and other miscellaneous topics. The format of this test consist
of 50 multiple choice questions, with scores ranging from 200-800.
Math Level IC - Calculator
The purpose of the Math Level IC subject test is to assess your understanding of mathematics areas such as: algebra,
geometry, basic trigonometry, data interpretation, and other miscellaneous topics. This test is similiar in content to the
Math Level I test however, this test also test your ability to use a calculator. This test consist of 40 questions,
40% do not require the use of a calculator. It is graded on a 200-800 scale.
Math Level IIC - Calculator
The purpose of the Math Level IIC subject test is to assess your understanding of advanced mathematics principals such
as: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, permutations and combinations, limits, etc. This test requires the
use of a calculator and consist of 50 multiple choice questions. The grade scale is 200-800.
Biology
The purpose of the Biology subject test is to assess your understanding of general biology and to apply the principles
to solve specific problems in biology. You are expected to understand simple algebraic concepts such as word problems
and be able to organize and interpret results from experimentation. A familiarity with the metric system is also required.
This test consist of 95 questions on topics such as Cellular and Molecular Biology, Ecology, Genetics, etc.
Chemistry
The purpose of the Chemistry subject test is to assess your understanding of chemistry. You will be required to
understand the major concepts and the application of those concepts to specific problems. You must also be familiar with
the metric system of units as well as the concepts of ratio and direct and inverse proportions.
This test consist of 85 multiple choice questions on topics such as: Atomic and Molecular Structure, Matter, Reaction Types,
Stoichiometry, Thermodynamics, etc.
Physics
The purpose of the Physics subject test is to assess your understanding of physics. You will be required to
understand the major concepts and the application of those concepts to specific problems. You must also be familiar with
the metric system of units.
This test consist of 75 multiple choice questions on topics such as: Mechanics, Electricity, Magnetism, Waves, Thermodynamics etc.
Foreign and Classical Languages
The purpose of the Foreign and Classical Langages subject test is to assess your ability to understand and comprehend
the structure, vocabulary, etc of the particular language. The format of this test consist of 84 multiple choice question. There are two
listening sections and one reading comprehension section
Foreign Language Tests with Listening
The purpose of the Foreign Langages with Listening subject test is to assess your ability to understand and comprehend
the spoken and written aspects of the particular language. The format of this test consist of 85-90 question. There
20 minute listening section and a 40 minute reading section
English Language Proficiency Test
This test is intended for students whos native language is not English. Its purpose is to assess both your understanding
of spoken and written English.
