CONSUMER STATEMENT

Credit reports are easy to read once you get the hang of it, and most come with explicit instructions. If you still have trouble, the credit agency is required by law to spend time with you at its office explaining your report. The credit bureau uses a rating system with the letters "0", "R", or "I", followed by a number from 0 to 9. "O" is a 30 to 90 day open account. "R" represents "revolving accounts" such as credit cards and department store accounts, and "I" is used for "installment credit", such as an automobile or furniture loan. R1 is the best, R9 usually means the account was written off by the creditor because of a bankruptcy. Your goal is to get all of your accounts to R1 or I1. The sample credit profile also includes other information that will be discussed later.
