CREDIT MANUAL -- PAGE 13b Adding your Story

You have the legal right to add your side of the story to your credit file, that is, why your payments were late, or that credit information in your file is incorrect and is being re-verified. Add important information like being unemployed during the period when the payments were late or that you moved and the bills went to the wrong address. Add to your file that all late payments were prior to a certain date, and why you were late and that payments are now current. Your side of the story can make a difference to your potential creditors and employers.

How long does it take to Review a discrepancy?

The length of time necessary to review a discrepancy depends upon the work load of the Credit Bureau and the response time of the creditor. However, if you have not received any response within 6 weeks it would be advisable to contact the credit bureau.
